SJGS principal, Mrs. Melissa Green, on the vision for the Eagles Giving Day this year:

In my 25+ years as an educator I have found it to be universally true that the people who choose to become teachers are people who have always loved to learn. And in my many years of serving here at SJGS, I can guarantee that we are staffed by teachers who love to learn and hunger for professional growth. I believe that the unwavering dedication of our teachers is a great gift that we should give thanks for and that our parish should steward as earnestly as we would any other treasure given to us by God.

This is what our Eagles Giving Day, one week from today, will focus on — funding teacher development and empowering our grade school and preschool educators to pursue their unique passions in the work of educating hearts and minds. While there are myriad opportunities for teacher development right in our backyard at Notre Dame, sometimes it takes a bigger trip and a more significant investment to send our teachers off for learning. For example, in recent weeks two teachers flew to Minneapolis for the National Conference on Science Education, and another went to New Orleans for the American Council for Teachers of Foreign Language Conference.

Each time a teacher approaches our admin team with a desire to participate in these national conferences, we know it will cost us approximately $1,500; however, the return on investment is priceless. Not only do we end up with more knowledgeable, skilled educators in our classrooms serving our students, we are also far more likely to retain teachers when we can fund their continuous growth. The fabric of our school family simply becomes better.

Thank you for thinking in advance about the gift your family might make this year in support of our SJGS educators.

Thank you for your generosity on this Eagles Giving Day. May St. Joseph, our humble patron, intercede for our teachers and students in all that they do to make God known, loved, and served.
